My name is Gianna Scala. I am currently a senior attending the Ross School. This blog is the product of my senior project. I chose this project because I want to pursue the career of a veterinary surgeon. My occupational dreams have always solely consisted of becoming a veterinarian because I am extremely passionate about helping animals and people all over the world.

 

The goal of my project was to experience how various zoological medical fields differ regarding wildlife animals and house pets. Throughout this project process, I have experienced diverse work environments where I learned about the distinct anatomies of the animals on which I worked. There were many different animal care procedures and routines that I was taught and had to follow when shadowing the veterinarians and animal care specialists. I learned a lot about animal care and observed many medical procedures. This was successful because I fully achieved my initial personal goal, which was to dive into separate fields of veterinary study in a more in-depth manner than I had in the past.

This blog, which is the product portion of my project, intends to bring people together and inspire other students who are interested in pursuing veterinary medicine as well. This career field is extremely competitive, if not the most competitive, so I wanted to create a product that encourages the unification, rather than the divide, of prospective veterinarians. I feel that this environment will achieve that goal because ideas and ambitions can be exchanged in order to help the community of people succeed.

Although this blog is for my senior project, this does not mean that I will not continue to use this platform as a tool for people, particularly students, who are interested in pursuing veterinary medicine. The posts may not be as frequent as they have been in the past few months, but I still plan on using it as an innovative outlet for myself in the process of achieving my lifelong goal of becoming a veterinary surgeon. Although this journey will be tedious and challenging, it will also be rewarding and beneficial overall, for it will create a sense of community that will guide me through the process of becoming a veterinarian. In turn, it will inspire others to persevere in their similar, respective endeavors.
